ABOUT US

We are Christian parents who understand first-hand the challenges and, most of all, the isolation experienced by parents of children with extraordinary needs.

We want parents to know: You are not alone! While it might seem as if no one else can understand your challenges and, yes, your heartaches, other Christian parents are feeling the same way--possibly even within your own congregation, with each of you being unaware of the others' struggles. We hope to encourage you with God's Word and with the support of others who understand, at least in part. We also seek to bring about greater awareness in the Christian community. It is our prayer that many more people will be encouraged to find ways to show Christian love to children with extraordinary needs and include them in all aspects of ministry, as well as show Christian love and encouragement to their parents.

Light for Parents Mission Statement:

Light for Parents exists to provide Christian encouragement and support to parents of children with extraordinary challenges.

Our Goals

We hope to accomplish the following through the Light for Parents Ministry:

Share information and resources for parents

We will review relevant books, share blog posts, offer workshops on trauma-informed parenting, and most of all, share encouragement from God's Word.
Encourage the Christian community around parents
Through public speaking and other means of information-sharing, we will help fellow Christians understand how they can show love to parents raising children with extraordinary needs.
Reduce parents' feelings of isolation in their struggles
We will help parents connect with other parents who have had similar experiences so that they can encourage one another.

The WELS Mindshift Project Mission Statement:

Changing minds. Opening hearts. Making room.

Rooted in the truth of God’s Word and the transforming promise of Romans 12:2, The WELS Mindshift Project exists to equip, encourage, and unite families, caregivers, and called workers in faithful advocacy for neurodivergent and medically complex children.

We seek to reflect Christ’s love by seeing every person through God’s eyes—fearfully and wonderfully made, deeply valued, and fully belonging within his Church. Through shared understanding, compassionate support, and Christ-centered conversation, we strive to renew minds, challenge assumptions, and build communities where all children and families are welcomed, supported, and able to grow in faith.

Together, we are committed to making room within our churches, schools, and hearts so that every child may know they are seen, known, and loved by their Savior.

Our Christian Beliefs
We are members of the Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Synod (WELS), and our beliefs match those of this church body. A summary of those beliefs can be found here.
