Unbroken Faith book review

Unbroken Faith

Spiritual Recovery for the Special Needs Parent

By Diane Dokko Kim

Unbroken Faith is a book of “spiritual encouragement and empowerment for special needs parents.” Diane Dokko Kim is a Christian and mother of a son who was diagnosed with autism. In this book, she shares many personal stories of her family’s experiences with disability and the tough questions and struggles that she’s brought before God as a result of those challenges. She does not shy away from the questions that many Christians may feel scared or even ashamed to ask. Chapters include “Why me? It’s not fair!” and “Why won’t you fix this?” Each short chapter is a quick but thought-provoking read that provides caregivers an opportunity to give voice to the emotions of special needs parenting, along with meditation on Scripture, memory passages, prayer, and journaling prompts to consider how God’s purpose is achieved, even within the challenges of disability.

Check this book out at your local library and pick a chapter or two that seem to speak to you where you are at in your journey with disability. You may find that you want to purchase this book for yourself so that you can read, re read, and notate the meditations and Scriptures that speak to your heart on any given day.
